Family Protiction Project in Jordan

INTROUDCUTION:

The family protection project is a pioneering project in Jordan. It tackles social problems and differences in an innovative way and in partnership with governmental and non governmental  institution. It relies on human rights when dealing with violence and abuse against women and children in Jordan in away that is best convenient to traditions, customs and religious teaching.

The project aims at building the capacity of employees working in institutions concerned with violence as well as raising the public awareness regarding family protection issues in Jordan.

 

JUSTIFICATIONS:

In march 2000,all bodies involved in family protecton issues met in order to form a team responsible for implemnting the project and reach a common vision as to how to implement the project.

 

The most important justification given to the necessity of launching this project are the following.

1) Legal Issues:

- Insufficient legal legistlation regarding domestic violence.

Absence of specailzed family courts.-

2) womns 's services :

-limited services provided to women.

Absence of a women's shellter.-

Unawarness of many women of their rights.-

3) children 's services :

-limited services provided to children.

-A need for effective continuos training programmes

-insufficient awreness of the Child's Rights.

4)Puplic Awrness:

-unawareness of family members of thir roles .

-parties of domestic violence don’t report any occuring  violence incidents and don’t allow interference from official institutions in family affairs.

-A need to raise awarness regarding issues of domestic violence.

5)Research:

-insufficient researches,statistics and data related to family protection issues.

6)Model  Family Protection Department:

- A need for relevent institutions concerned with issues of domestic violence and abuse to have a clear definition of domestic vilonce.

-A need to identify clear procedures for dealing with cases

-A need for specialisations of roles.

-A need to establish a working mechanism among the institutions.

 

GOAL OF THE PROJECT:

Develop and implement a human rights based approach in harmony with  religious teaching and traditions for family protection in jordan.

 

PURPOSE OF THE PROJECT:

Strengthening national institutional capacity to combat family violence,child abuse and sexual assault cases.

 

EXPECTED OUTPUT:

1.   Legal  Issues:

Develop and implement a human rights based approach in harmony with religious teaching and traditions within the criminal /civil justice system for victims,witness and offenders.

2.   Children Services:

Sepcialised preventive ,therapeutic and rehabilitative services developed for child victims of violence and abuse.

3.   Women's Serrvices:

Sepcialised support services developed for women victims of violence and abuse.

4.   Research:

Design and implement ongoing research programs to inform policy makers and improve procedures.

5.   Model Family Protecton Departmant:

Design and implement a model Family Protection Department.

6.   Raising A warness :

A higher level of awrness within all sectores of society regarding family violence ,sexual assault and child abuse.

7.Multi-agency Working:

Develop co-ordination among the institution in the field of  family protecton esprcially for the saftety of women and children.

 

EXPEXTED OUTCOMES:

  • Institution adopting a humen based approach in regard to family protection.

  • Report of sexual assault ,domestic violence and child abuse cases and provision of appropriate services.

  • Establish effective co-ordination systems for multi-agency work amongst institutions.

  • Set uo and implement policies and procedures.

  • Set up five year national work plans to ensure continuity once the project comes to an end.
